Burgate Manor Farm: A Farm Stay on the Edge of the New Forest

Burgate Manor Farm sits just outside Fordingbridge, right on the boundary of the New Forest National Park. The place has been in the same family for over a century, and they have converted old farm buildings into holiday lets.

You get six smaller cottages arranged around a courtyard: Swan, Heron, Teal, Mallard, Grebe, and Kingfisher. These sleep between four and eight people each, with open-plan living areas, equipped kitchens, and private patios.

For bigger groups, the Granary Barn handles up to 18 guests in a spacious setup with exposed beams, a gallery floor, and room for everyone to gather. It includes multiple bedrooms, bathrooms, and even facilities for those with mobility needs, like a wet room.

The farm spans 230 acres of grassland, woodland, and meadows, all open to guests. You can wander tracks along the river, spot barn owls or roe deer, or join in feeding the pigs, turkeys, and chickens.

Fishing permits are available for the Avon, and the Avon Valley footpath crosses the property, leading straight into the national park for longer rambles. A suspension bridge adds a bit of adventure crossing to forest trails.

Fordingbridge, a mile away, has shops, pubs like the George, and eateries for when you fancy eating out. Salisbury lies 20 minutes north with its cathedral, while south coast spots are half an hour’s drive.

The farm also features a large games barn with table tennis, pool tables, and space for kids to play, plus outdoor areas for barbecues or picnics by the water meadows.

For families new to the area, it suits relaxed stays with a mix of farm life and easy access to attractions. Dogs are welcome in some cottages, and there are electric vehicle charging points. The whole setup encourages time outdoors, whether watching wildlife or exploring the park’s 140,000 acres.

Reviews from TripAdvisor, based on 156 entries, give it a solid four out of five. Guests often praise the spotless cottages and helpful owners, like John and Nick, who share tips on fishing or walks.

Families highlight the animal interactions – goats and turkeys get special mentions – and how the peaceful setting wears out energetic kids and pets. Larger groups appreciate the Granary for celebrations, noting the well-stocked kitchens and cozy atmosphere.

A few note the rural quiet might not suit everyone seeking nightlife, but most return for the homely feel and value.
