Crossroads Cottage in Frogham – A New Forest Cottage with Private Swim Spa
The property stands at a crossroads in the quiet village of Frogham, right on the northern fringe of the New Forest National Park in Hampshire. From the front gate a two-minute walk leads straight onto open heathland where ponies and donkeys graze freely. The cottage itself feels firmly rooted in the landscape, with its traditional lines and enclosed garden that catches plenty of sun throughout the day.
Inside, the ground floor flows easily from a generous kitchen-diner into a conservatory and lounge. The kitchen holds an electric hob and oven alongside the Aga that warms the space on cooler days, plus a slimline dishwasher, fridge-freezer, microwave and Nespresso machine. A large ash table seats six comfortably for meals.
The conservatory adds extra seating with underfloor heating and doors that open directly onto the garden. Next door the lounge centres on an inglenook fireplace fitted with a wood-burning stove and a Smart TV; the open-tread staircase rises from here to the first-floor bedrooms.
Upstairs the master bedroom contains a double bed and its own en-suite shower room.
The second bedroom takes a standard single bed while the third holds a small single with a pull-out bed underneath. A family bathroom with shower over the bath completes the layout. Oil-fired central heating keeps the whole house comfortable year-round, and fibre broadband ensures reliable WiFi.
Outside the main attraction sits in its own pool house: a heated swim spa kept at 32 degrees with adjustable counter-current jets and hydrotherapy seating for up to six people. The garden itself is mainly lawn with gravel paths, a large patio furnished with wooden seats for six, sun loungers and a gas barbecue. A gravel driveway at the front provides parking for up to three cars, and gates should stay closed to keep visiting livestock out.
- Accessibility: Open-tread staircase to first-floor bedrooms limits full mobility access; travel cot, high chair and stair gate are supplied on request.
- Layout: Ground floor open-plan kitchen-diner, conservatory and lounge; three first-floor bedrooms and two bathrooms.
- Parking: Gravel driveway accommodates up to three cars.
- Local amenities: Foresters Arms pub lies 100 metres away; Fordingbridge with shops, cafés and a medieval bridge sits three miles down the road; Blashford Lakes Nature Reserve is four miles distant while Bolderwood Deer Sanctuary is six miles away; beaches such as Highcliffe and Avon Beach are around 13 to 18 miles by car.
The surrounding New Forest offers miles of waymarked paths and the Avon Valley footpath passes close by for longer walks. Wildlife spotting happens naturally from the garden gate, and clear night skies make the area popular for amateur stargazing. Day trips to the Elizabethan manor at Breamore or the Roman villa remains at Rockbourne add historical interest without leaving the immediate district.
The cottage rates highly with many reviews, particularly for the swim spa and the immediate sense of being immersed in forest life while still having a village pub on the doorstep. Everything feels practical rather than showy: linen and towels are provided, logs arrive in season, and the welcome hamper eases the first evening. Guests return for the balance of comfort and countryside that the location delivers without fuss.
